For a couple of days this past week, Ellie started waking up nearly every hour during the night - and she seemed hungry... so I fed her rice cereal for the very first time yesterday evening near bed time to try and fill her tummy more- and she slept longer once again! (I have no idea if the cereal really helped the situation by keeping her more full, but it was definitely fun seeing how much she enjoyed eating from the spoon!) - More pics of this big event down at the bottom of this post.
A friend of ours stopped by the other day with some 12 month clothes for Ellie that no longer fit her daughter. After washing them I plopped them on our living room carpet so that I could fold them. Ellie kept grabbing at the clothes, so I placed her on top of the pile - she was thrilled with this new play space :) And I am thrilled that Ellie won't be running around naked once she is 12 months old :)
On June 14th, Jeremiah and I traveled down to Long Beach where we plan to stay for a month. We ran into soooooooooooooooooooo much traffic, so I was glad I had an emergency bottle of milk with me. When I gave it to Ellie, she decided to hold it all by herself! - a FIRST! - and she drank the whole bottle too!
A note about something I was thinking about on our travels down - the terrible places chosen for baby changing stations! Ever since having to use these stations, I haven't been able to get over the areas chosen to place them in women restrooms: next to the trashcan where EVERYONE throws their used paper towels (Costco), in front of bathroom stalls so that the women inside those stalls are trapped inside until the baby's diaper is changed (!) (Hobby Lobby), and then I noticed another worst choice when we stopped for a rest break at a McDonalds in Tejon Ranch - right past the door to get into the bathroom - so that all the women standing in line for the toilet can watch your baby get changed... CRAZY! The designers for these bathrooms must have been men...
I threw a small surprise graduation party for Jeremiah at our favorite place to celebrate - The Melting Pot! We got a picture taken of our group, and I am amazed at how all 3 babies are awake! I love that we have friends with babies now in Porterville AND in the Long Beach area! Above is a picture of our friend Chris and their baby Connor - I think they are complete twins!!!
My mom is quite excited that we are staying for so long - she even arranged the bathroom special for us - this is my toothbrush station...Jeremiah's station looks identical except that his toothbrush is green...
More and more Ellie is getting used to her PopPop Ron - she may look kinda scared here (!) (think it was the flash) but she let him hold her for a nice long while!
And here are the pictures we captured of Ellie's first meal - she loved the bib so much that she kept crumpling it up in her hands - we wound up using a towel to keep the mess off! I started off letting Ellie taste the food off of my finger before introducing the spoon - but she loved it so much that I don't think it was too necessary... Yea for a successful first feeding session!
